Anyone who is into carpentry or woodworking knows just how important a table saw is for their work. They also know that like any tool that has a blade, these tools can be extremely dangerous when you do not know how to operate them properly. It is important to understand the tools you are using, and that you are taking all of the proper safety precautions before using them.

If you are a beginner in the world of wood working, you may want to find a course or workshop where you can learn how to use all of the tools you will need, and be taught many important safety precautions.

Read Your Instruction Manual

If you have never used a table saw before, you need to at least read the instruction manual before you try to do anything yourself. Make sure that you read it from cover to cover, and take special note of any safety instructions. These are especially important, and could prevent injuries that include loss of limbs, or even death. If possible, ask an associate at the hardware store to explain how to use the model you have purchased. If they can not do this for you, they may be able to recommend someone who can, or at least some literature you can read on the subject.

Understand the Machine

Once you have read through the instruction manual once, you can start looking over the machine and learning about the various parts and how to use it. Before you start using it, make sure that you are wearing safety goggles to protect your eyes, and do not wear baggy clothing or jewelry that can get carried in the moving parts of the machine. You should also wear ear plugs or another form of hearing protection.

Once you are all geared up, the first thing you should do is check the blade guard to make sure that it is working right. If your machine does not have a blade guard, you will need to be more careful in your work to avoid injuries. Next, check to see if the blade and fence are square. Make sure that the blade is set at a low height. The lower the height, the less chance there is going to be of kick-backs that can cause injuries. Kick-back is also caused by defective wood, so you should inspect for knots before you begin working.

Start Cutting

Now that you know about your machine and you have everything set up properly, you can start cutting wood. Make sure that you do not use a piece of wood that is too large for you to manage, and if necessary, use a stick to push it through the blade so you do not get cut. Never force wood through the blade, which can lead to kick-backs. Using just a small amount of pressure is plenty.

You can create many amazing things when you have the right tools. When you are using bladed tools, make sure that you understand how to properly use the tools, and that you always take all of the right safety precautions. This will ensure that you are not injured while using your table saw and other tools, and that all of your projects will come out looking awesome.
